MGME specialises as a heating and plumbing contractor, providing its services throughout the island.
McGuinness Mechanical Engineering (MGME) is investing £3.5m to create 28 new jobs in Co Down, Northern Ireland.
MGME is a family-owned business which provides mechanical services throughout the island of Ireland. The company specialises as a heating and plumbing contractor offering full design supply and fit of mechanical services on residential, commercial and industrial projects. The company has offices in Newry, Co Down and Donabate, Co Dublin.
The new roles, which is set to double MGME’s Northern Irish workforce, will enable the company to grow its maintenance division and increase sales in the Republic of Ireland, as well as provide an estimated annual boost of £250,000 to the local supply chain.
The added strength will enable the company to increase productivity by working on larger-scale projects. This will provide economies of scale, enable better planning and cost control.
The new jobs, which include a range of senior managerial and operational roles such as contracts managers and mechanical operatives, will have an average salary of £54,250, the company said.
“This £3.5m investment is a transformative step for MGME and a significant boost for the Newry region,” said the Northern Irish minister for the economy Dr Caoimhe Archibald.
“Thanks to Invest Northern Ireland’s ongoing support, MGME is now equipped to strategically compete for larger contracts allowing the company to double its turnover and increase its sales to the south of Ireland by almost £11m.”
Thomas McGuinness, the founder and managing director at MGME said, “Invest NI has played a key part in our journey, helping us strengthen our business to enable us to grow. Through its leadership and supply chain programmes, we’ve refined our strategic direction, accessed expert advice and increased our resilience.”
Invest NI, the region’s economic development agency, has helped secure funds for several companies in recent months, creating jobs along the way. Earlier this month, Dundalk’s ControlSoft Automation Systems opened a new Belfast hub and promised to create 27 new jobs over the coming three years.
“We’ve worked closely with MGME for over 10 years, supporting the business to scale through leadership and capability development, and to boost its supply chain resilience. We’ve also provided vital trade support to explore opportunities for growth in the Republic of Ireland,” said George McKinney, the executive director at Invest NI.
“Our ongoing support has helped position MGME to make this investment which will boost productivity and enable it to make its growth ambitions a reality through exporting.”
