What’s the best internet deal available now?

Internet is expensive, and there’s no cutting it from our monthly expenses. While we’re often limited to what internet options are available at our address, what if you could sign up for internet and get a gift card or deal on your monthly cost in the process?

Luckily, most internet service providers run deals all year long. Some of these deals are better than others, and some ISPs use price traps that’ll keep you stuck with a subpar plan for a while. We’ve done the research for you and compiled the top deals and perks from some of the most popular ISPs. From gift cards and JBL speakers to discounted rates — there’s a little bit of everything out there.

Frontier Fiber’s 500Mbps plan is one of the best internet deals available right now. For a limited time, you can get Frontier Fiber’s 500 megabits per second plan starting at $30 monthly, which will last for a year before jumping to $55. Even at the regular monthly price, Frontier’s 500Mbps plan still features a relatively low cost per Mbps. On top of the price cut, Frontier Fiber is offering a $100 Visa gift card for its 500Mbps, 1,000Mbps and 2,000Mbps plans to sweeten the deal. All Frontier Fiber plans feature customer-friendly terms like free equipment rental and unlimited data.

If you’re looking for other signup bonus offers, ISPs often throw in gift cards, streaming service subscriptions, free months of service or other incentives for new customers. AT&T Fiber and Optimum typically offer gift cards to all online customers, while Verizon Fios keeps it interesting with a frequent mix of free streaming services or a price lock guarantee of up to five years.

If you’re looking for a sign to try out T-Mobile’s 5G Home Internet, this is it. For a limited time, T-Mobile is offering a $5 discount for all its 5G internet plans. If you have a T-Mobile voice plan, you can get the Amplified Home Internet plan for $45 a month (regularly $65) and the All-In Home Internet Plan for $55 (regularly $65). Note that T-Mobile doesn’t specify when this deal will end. On the bright side, there is also a prepaid $200 and $300 Mastercard gift card for new customers signing up for its Amplified and All-In Home Internet plans online. The deal comes after T-Mobile’s recent gateway router upgrade boosted speeds across all T-Mobile Home Internet plans. The gift cards are only eligible after 60 days of service, and you only get the gift card after 10 weeks of service, so keep that in mind before committing to trying it out.

You’ll find a recent roundup of the best offers and promotions from leading ISPs below. Keep in mind that not all providers, pricing and promotions are available in all areas and that offers are subject to change at any time.

Our take – Spectrum internet is a decent deal on its own with speeds of 500Mbps or 1Gbps starting at $50 and $70 a month, respectively. Bundling makes Spectrum an even better deal with monthly discounts: You can get up to $20 off 500Mbps or $30 off gig service. Bundling also doubles your price guarantee from one to two years and nixes the $10 cost of your Wi-Fi and modem.

Other internet deals this month

Internet deals and promos vary by ISP, and providers vary by location and individual plans, so any number of deals could be available at your address. Here are some other noteworthy deals in addition to the ones listed above that you may want to consider.

Astound Broadband: Free service, gift cards, discounted installation. Astound’s internet offers vary by location and are a bit all over the place. For example, New York City and Annapolis customers can get free service for one month when signing up for the provider’s fastest plan. In other areas where Astound service is available, customers may be eligible for up to $200 in gift cards and select addresses may also be eligible for half-off installation costs.

Kinetic by Windstream: Up to $200 in gift cards. In select areas, Kinetic is giving away gift cards for $200 to new customers who sign up for its 2-gig plan and a $100 gift card for new customers signing up for the 1-gig plan. You can also shave $20 off your monthly bill if you bundle your internet with an AT&T wireless plan.

Metronet: $100 Amazon gift card. If you live in the Midwest, you may be eligible for fiber internet from Metronet. This regional provider is offering a $100 Amazon gift card for new users signing up for its 1-gig, 2-gig and 5-gig plans. In addition, Metronet includes a 3-year price lock on most plans so you won’t have to worry about your bill skyrocketing.

Optimum Internet: Up to $100 in gift cards. For fiber customers who sign up for service online, Optimum has a limited-time offer for users signing up for the 1-gig plan to get a $100 gift card. In addition, you can reduce your monthly bill across all fiber plans if you bundle with Optimum mobile.

WOW Internet: $300 gift card. WideOpenWest incentivizes customers to choose its fastest speed tier. The provider’s 1,200Mbps, starting at $95 per month, comes with a $300 Visa gift card.

Best internet deals FAQ

What’s the best internet deal?

While a slew of perks and promos might be enticing to customers, a low-cost-per-Mbps plan will often be the best internet deal.

For example, Frontier Fiber 500 includes maximum download and upload speeds of 500Mbps starting at $45 monthly for a cost per Mbps of 9 cents. Compare that to a similarly priced plan or one even cheaper from another provider — such as the Xfinity Connect plan, which has a lower starting price at $20 to $30 per month but significantly lower maximum download (150Mbps) and upload (10Mbps) speeds and thus a higher cost per Mbps — and Frontier Fiber 500 stands out as the much better internet deal.

If you have similar pricing and speed options from multiple providers, look for special promotions, equipment costs, contract requirements and other service factors to determine which provider has the best deal.

Can I get a deal on internet without a contract?

Yes. Many providers, including AT&T, Frontier, Google Fiber, Spectrum and Verizon Fios offer their best internet deals and incentives without requiring you to sign a contract. Other providers, such as Cox and Xfinity, may require you to sign a contract to get the lowest introductory rate in select areas.

What internet deals are available to students and seniors?

Most major providers have a discount internet program available to qualifying low-income households, including those with students and seniors. Plans are typically in the $20 to $30 range and often come with broadband speeds of 50Mbps or higher.

Can I get a better deal from my current ISP?

Special offers such as introductory pricing and sign-up bonuses are typically reserved for new customers. That said, it may be possible to negotiate with your provider for a lower price or faster speeds. Your chances of scoring a better deal are higher if you aren’t locked in a contract. Also, it’s a good idea to research other providers and offers available in your area before you call. The threat of switching internet providers is often enough for your current provider to offer you a better deal.
