How do you make a MagSafe battery pack more magical? Add a kickstand.
There aren’t many battery pack options on the market that have mastered a slim design, MagSafe compatibility, and an added phone stand all-in-one, but UAG’s Srge Slim 5K power bank has, with 20W USB-C charging and 10W MagSafe wireless charging.
In the box you’ll get a 4ft braided USB-C cable with an integrated cable tie — a nice touch considering this battery will run you $70, a smidge on the pricier side for a 5K capacity battery.
It’s a great size for on-the-go use. While it’s not as thin as other 5K battery packs I’ve used (like the Torras MiniMag, which is an astonishing 0.30 inches thick), it’s still a practical size at 0.53 inches thick. It easily fits into a standard back pants pocket, coat pocket, and my everyday purse, and as a MagSafe accessories expert — that’s a great sign.

According to UAG, it has a slim, metal housing for a sleek look and feel and meets military drop-test standards. Although it is thicker than other battery packs I’ve recently tested, I don’t find it to be much heavier. It feels lightweight on my phone.

I’m typically not the biggest fan of boxier battery pack designs, though. I find gripping my phone with the pack attached to it feels harsh, especially due to the squared-edged design. It’s also more slick because of its metal construction. It’s not necessarily uncomfortable, but it’s not my personal preference. I’d rather a more curved, ergonomic design with soft-touch elements for better stability.

Beyond the feel, the UAG Slim power bank functionally works well. I rarely use MagSafe battery packs to fully charge my phone, but UAG says this pack can charge an iPhone 16 up to 75% and an iPhone 15 up to 82%. I got several top-offs on my iPhone 14 Pro before recharging the pack, which took about an hour and a half.
I think the built-in kickstand is well done. It lies nearly flush when collapsed and is sturdy when supporting a phone, plus it doesn’t add bulk to the back of the battery pack.

It’s compatible with or without a case on MagSafe-compatible phones and cases, but I do find that the magnet has more wiggle than other battery packs I’ve tried. It’s not unsecure, but it doesn’t require using my nail to break the magnetic connection like I have to with others, so keep that in mind if you’re looking for an uber-strong magnetic connection.
ZDNET’s buying advice
If you’re drawn to the built-in kickstand feature and lightweight carry in your battery pack, this MagSafe option from UAG may be for you. It’s slim, stylish, and super functional.
If you need a larger capacity battery, you’ll want to consider something at least over 8K. If you’d rather save a few dollars (or don’t need a kickstand), there are other 5K battery options under $70 I’d recommend you consider, like Anker’s MagGo 5K Slim or the Torras MiniMag.
